Used Car Warranty in Adelaide
What is covered, what it costs (nothing), and the full terms and conditions.
Every Jarvis used car comes with a complimentary three-year warranty at no extra cost. It runs for three years from delivery, has no kilometre limit, and covers up to $1,000 for any one claim. This is in addition to the statutory three-month used-car warranty and to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Below is a plain-language summary of what that means, followed by the full terms and conditions. The complete, authoritative document is the Jarvis Used Vehicle Warranty and Road Service Terms (PDF), and the specific term and expiry date for your car are recorded on your Owner's Acknowledgement.
The warranty at a glance
- Three years, unlimited kilometres. Cover runs for three years after delivery, first by any remaining manufacturer's new-vehicle warranty and then by the Jarvis Warranty Agreement.
- Up to $1,000 per claim. Jarvis covers the cost of making good a covered mechanical fault up to a value of $1,000 including GST for any one claim.
- Complimentary. The Jarvis warranty is provided at no additional cost, on top of the statutory three-month dealer warranty.
- In addition to your consumer rights. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. This warranty is extra, not a replacement.
- Servicing keeps it valid. The car must be serviced at a Jarvis Service Centre every 12 months or 10,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. While the car is still under manufacturer's warranty, follow the manufacturer's servicing schedule instead.
Every Jarvis used car is also prepared through a 90-point safety check and roadworthy test, checked through the PPSR for clear title, and confirmed never to have been written off or stolen, before it goes on sale.

How to make a claim
If a covered mechanical fault occurs, return the vehicle to Jarvis within seven days of the fault occurring if you are within a 100km radius of the Adelaide GPO. If you are outside that radius, or moving the car could be unsafe or cause further damage, telephone Jarvis on 08 8403 3888 or send a written request within seven days instead.
When you claim, give Jarvis your name, address, phone number or email, the vehicle description and registration number, and the nature of the fault. Repairs must be approved in writing by the Jarvis Warranty Administrator before they begin. Jarvis will assess the claim, tell you the outcome, and if a claim is rejected will explain why in writing along with any other options available to you.
Full terms and conditions
The following reproduces the Jarvis Warranty Agreement terms and conditions. The authoritative version is the Customer Satisfaction Pack (PDF). The parties, term and expiry date specific to your vehicle are recorded on your Owner's Acknowledgement.
Jarvis is pleased to provide this unlimited kilometre warranty to you on the terms and conditions set out below. Your Vehicle will be covered for the 3 years after delivery (first by any remaining Manufacturer's New Vehicle Warranty and then by the Jarvis Warranty Agreement), to a value of up to $1,000 for any one claim.
Jarvis may amend, update, or modify these warranty terms and conditions at any time without prior notice, provided that such changes may only be made when they are for the benefit of the Owner or otherwise required by law. Any such changes will be effective immediately upon publication on our website or communication through other appropriate channels. It is your responsibility to review the warranty terms periodically to stay informed of any updates. Any amendments will not affect warranty claims already submitted or in progress at the time of the amendment and will remain consistent with your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
- Jarvis warrants and agrees: In consideration for the Owner purchasing the Vehicle described on the Owner's Acknowledgement, Jarvis warrants and agrees that in the event of mechanical fault of any of the parts covered under this Agreement as specified in clause 2 during the term specified in clause 3 (the "Term"), Jarvis will make good such mechanical fault, or at its discretion cause or procure such fault to be made good to the extent specified in clause 19, on and subject to the terms and conditions contained in the Agreement. "Fault" means any defect in a covered part where, due to the defect, the part does not function for the purpose it was intended. "Manufacturer's New Vehicle Warranty" means the warranty (and any after-warranty discretionary or goodwill assistance covering a mechanical fault) provided by the manufacturer of the Vehicle.
- Parts covered: The covered parts are those listed under "What is covered" above (engine, transmission, differential, power steering, cooling system, brakes and electrical, each subject to the stated exclusions). The Agreement does not cover consumables, including oils, coolants, fluids and lubricants replaced during repairs. Any items not listed as covered, and all excluded items, are expressly excluded from the warranty provided by Jarvis under this Agreement.
- Term: This Agreement commences immediately upon expiry of the Manufacturer's New Vehicle Warranty or on delivery of the Vehicle to you, whichever is later, and expires on the Expiry Date listed on the Owner's Acknowledgement under "Term of Agreement". Prior to the expiry of any Manufacturer's New Vehicle Warranty applicable to the Vehicle, this Agreement will be of no effect.
- Servicing requirements: The Vehicle must be delivered to a Jarvis Service Centre for servicing at regular intervals of at least once every twelve months or 10,000 kilometres, whichever occurs first, from the date the Vehicle is first delivered to you. Where the Manufacturer's New Vehicle Warranty remains current, the Vehicle must instead be serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's written documentation and intervals for that period; upon expiry of the Manufacturer's New Vehicle Warranty, servicing reverts to the every-12-months-or-10,000km requirement. Jarvis Service Centres are currently located at Metro: 190-193 West Terrace, Adelaide; 270 Brighton Road, Somerton Park; 190 Portrush Road, Norwood; 495 Main North Road, Gepps Cross; and Regional: 50-52 Murray Street, Tanunda. Call 1300 13 77 44 for the most convenient Service Centre.
- Claim procedure: To claim, return the Vehicle to the Jarvis address within seven days of the fault occurring if it is within a 100km radius of the Adelaide GPO; or, if outside that radius or if moving the Vehicle could be unsafe or cause further damage, telephone Jarvis on 08 8403 3888 or send a written request within seven days. Notify Jarvis of the Owner's name, address, phone and/or email, the vehicle description and registration number, the nature of the fault, and any expenses incurred (which are borne by the Owner unless Jarvis decides in its absolute discretion to reimburse them). Repairs must be approved in writing by the Warranty Administrator of Jarvis before commencing. Jarvis will assess and respond with the outcome, or request further information; accepted claims proceed to remedy, and rejected claims are explained in writing with any other options available to you. You are responsible for any expense of returning the Vehicle for assessment where reasonably requested, and Jarvis will reimburse reasonable return expenses if the claim is accepted.
- Repair: The repair of goods capable of retaining user-generated data (for example a GPS unit or a radio with preset stations) may result in loss of that data. Goods presented for repair may be replaced by refurbished goods of the same type rather than being repaired, and refurbished goods may be used to repair the goods.
- Conditions: Jarvis is liable under this Agreement only provided that, subject to clause 15.1, the Vehicle is serviced by Jarvis in accordance with clause 4 and the Owner otherwise complies with the Agreement; the Owner has exhausted all other rights or remedies against the manufacturer in relation to the repairs (this Agreement does not waive the Owner's right to require repairs be carried out by the manufacturer); and the part which develops a fault was in the Vehicle when the Owner purchased it from Jarvis.
- Breach: If the Owner commits any breach of this Agreement, Jarvis may at its discretion, by written notice, terminate the Agreement effective from the time the breach occurred. A breach is deemed to include failure to comply with any reasonable recommendation of Jarvis, early termination of the Manufacturer's New Vehicle Warranty, or any parts being detrimentally affected by misuse or damage.
- Reasonable recommendations: Jarvis is not liable to rectify any mechanical fault caused or contributed to, directly or indirectly, by failure to comply with any reasonable recommendation made by Jarvis in respect of the Vehicle.
- No liability for certain causes: Subject to clauses 15.1, 16.1.1 and 17, Jarvis is not liable for loss or damage to the covered parts resulting from fire, smoke, flood, theft, vandalism, freezing, negligence, non-compliance with servicing as specified, wilful or accidental damage, or failure to exercise reasonable care by the Owner or any other person having care or control of the Vehicle.
- Independent expert: Subject to any applicable law, Jarvis has the right in any dispute to appoint an independent qualified expert whose findings of fact are accepted by both parties as final and conclusive, acting as an expert and not as an arbitrator.
- Inspection: Jarvis has the right to inspect the Vehicle at any time during the Term.
- Circumstances beyond control: Jarvis is not liable where it is prevented from carrying out its obligations by circumstances beyond its control, nor for the cost of any repairs where approval has not been given by the Warranty Administrator before commencement.
- Damage, unauthorised work, disposal: Jarvis is not liable if, in its opinion, any covered part has been detrimentally affected by misuse or damage (accidental or otherwise) or by alteration from the manufacturer's original specifications without the supervision or prior written authorisation of the Warranty Administrator; or if any repair work to a covered part has been performed without the prior authorisation of the Warranty Administrator. This Agreement terminates immediately upon the Owner surrendering possession of, selling or otherwise disposing of the Vehicle.
- Statutory warranties: Jarvis does not exclude or limit any provision of any statute (including the Competition and Consumer Act 2010) or any implied condition, warranty or guarantee (including any consumer guarantee under the Australian Consumer Law) that cannot lawfully be excluded (a "Non-Excludable Condition"). This warranty is in addition to any such statutory condition, warranty or guarantee. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law: you are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage, and to have goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. The terms of this Agreement (except clauses 16 and 17) do not apply where Jarvis carries out work under any statutory warranty, and where there is any inconsistency the statutory condition, warranty or guarantee prevails.
- Implied terms and liability: Subject to clause 15.1, to the maximum extent permissible by law Jarvis excludes any condition, warranty, guarantee or term implied by statute, general law or custom which may be lawfully excluded; all liability in contract for consequential or indirect damages (including lost profits and damages from third-party claims) even if foreseeable; and all liability in negligence for acts or omissions of Jarvis or its employees, agents or contractors arising in connection with this Agreement.
- Remedies: To the extent permitted by law, Jarvis' liability for breach of any provision (including any Non-Excludable Condition) is limited, at Jarvis' option, to supplying, replacing or repairing the goods or supplying the services again. Clauses 15 to 17 continue to apply after the expiration or termination of this Agreement.
- Assessment: Jarvis and the Warranty Administrator are each entitled, during the Term, to assess the value of work done to make good any mechanical fault.
- Value of work: Where, for any one claim, the value of the work required to make good a mechanical fault exceeds $1,000.00 including GST in Jarvis' or the Warranty Administrator's sole opinion, Jarvis is liable only to a value of $1,000.00 including GST, and its liability for any one claim is limited to that amount. "GST" means the goods and services tax under A New Tax System (Goods and Services Tax) Act 1999.
- Waiver: No failure, delay, relaxation or indulgence by either party in exercising any power or right operates as a waiver, and no single or partial exercise precludes any future or other exercise of a power or right under this Agreement.
- Severance: If any provision is invalid or unenforceable, all other self-sustaining provisions capable of separate enforcement continue to be valid and enforceable.
- Governing law: This Agreement is governed by the law of South Australia, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Australia.
- No transfer: This Agreement is non-transferable and is between the original Owner named on the Owner's Acknowledgement and Jarvis.
- Repair only: Jarvis' liability is limited to making good a mechanical fault as provided, and Jarvis is not liable for any consequential loss or damage sustained by the Owner or any other party as a result of a mechanical fault.
- Roadside assistance: The Owner acknowledges that Jarvis may, at its discretion and without prior notice, appoint a contractor or agent to provide Roadside Assistance on its behalf, and consents to any such appointment.
- Warranty administrator: The Owner acknowledges that Jarvis may, at its discretion and without prior notice, appoint a contractor or agent to administer the Jarvis Warranty on its behalf, and consents to any such appointment. "Warranty Administrator" means the employee of Jarvis instructed to administer the Jarvis Warranty, or the contractor or agent appointed for that purpose.
- Privacy: The Owner consents to Jarvis providing its contractors or agents such information as they may reasonably require, including the Owner's name and contact details, the vehicle description and the type of work carried out under the Jarvis Warranty. For full details, refer to the Jarvis privacy policy at jarviscars.com.au/about/privacy or upon request.
The Jarvis Warranty Agreement is entered into by the Wrightville group of companies trading as the Jarvis dealerships (full legal entity names and ABNs are set out in the Customer Satisfaction Pack). This page is a plain-text reproduction for convenience and does not vary the terms; the PDF and your Owner's Acknowledgement govern.
