Many of you would be familiar with the name Roger Rasheed – Roger is a former Aussie Rules footballer, international tennis player, tennis coach and Channel 7 commentator.
In addition to all of Roger’s sporting and commentating commitments, he also has his own foundation “The Roger Rasheed Sports Foundation”. The Foundation’s goal is all about giving children in disadvantaged communities access to a better life by giving them access to sport - with the philosophy behind it being that sport is a medicine and that it can make a real difference even in the toughest communities.
The first project for the Roger Rasheed Foundation was the redevelopment of the Rajah Street Reserve in Oaklands Park.
The Rajah Street Reserve had seen better days. Once a vibrant hub for local children and the community, it was totally run down. Roger & his team worked with the City of Marion Council to develop a plan to revitalize this area with the Reserve undergoing a major facelift with new multi-purpose courts and other sports facilities. Now completed, Roger’s Foundation introduces on-going training programs and mentoring from elite athletes, such as Jarvis Toyota’s very own brand ambassador, Rory Sloane.
The redevelopment is incredibly positive for the local community and has far reaching benefits for the children of the area. Jarvis Toyota is very proud to be a sponsor and part of the Rajah Street Reserve re-development, together with other projects supported by the Roger Rasheed Foundation.
