The next most popular vehicle amongst readers received 11 per cent of votes. Toyota's Overall Best win was one of several successes for the brand in the People's Choice awards. Toyota 86 and BRZ topped the Sports Luxury section with 31 per cent of the vote, while HiLux dominated the Best Trade/Commercial Segment, receiving 40 per cent.
Toyota Camry was the people's choice in the Best Family Car segment of the Carsguide awards. "While Toyota 86 has been almost universally lauded by professional motoring media, it is just as pleasing to receive acclamation from consumers," Toyota Australia's executive director sales and marketing Matthew Callachor said. "The 86 was developed by Toyota with the goal of satisfying enthusiastic drivers, so we are very gratified that they have so enthusiastically endorsed the car."
Toyota 86 has previously been voted Carsguide Car of the Year by News Ltd motoring journalists. The 86 has also received the prestigious 2012 Wheels magazine Car of the Year award, plus car of the year awards from Top Gear UK magazine and Fairfax Media's Drive supplement and website.
